chalk art!

Have you seen Dana Tanamachi's chalk art?

Beautiful, no? It makes me want to paint every surface in my house with chalk board paint.

bacon chocolate chip cookies

A few weeks ago I saw Joy's post on bacon chocolate chip cookies and I knew immediately that I had to give them a go. I mean, it's bacon. And chocolate (three different kinds might I add). In a cookie!
I used the recipe she recommended and boy did they go over well!

I know I'll be making these next time I'm craving something both sweet and salty.

Have you ever tried mixing two unlikely delicious flavors together?

The Makers

Jennifer Causey was inspired by the abundance of hand-crafters and artisans in her Brooklyn neighborhood and began a photo project:

On her beautiful sight she says, "I love discovering people who embrace a more tactile way of living, so I decided to start photographing them. When my project began, I knew I was photographing people who make things, but I soon realized I was also photographing people who make things happen."

Her project is on going so check out the site here.

We're feeling super inspired, not just by this project, but by each of The Makers themselves!

SRO Handbags gets a makeover!

We recently teamed up with a local handbag maker for a new logo and brochure design!
Her hand bags are eco-friendly and customizable as every bag is up-cycled from a cigar box.

Check out her fancy new branding:

Lounge Crafters website launched!

We've been working with Lounge Crafters for a while and think this is one of the most fun products we've come across. We had been working on a handful of print items for them and to match the branding they needed a solid showcase website for their flagship product "The Eagles Nest".

We are super happy that we could help them out and hope everyone can experience sitting in the back of a truck outfitted with one of these gems. Visit the site and follow them to find out where they'll be next!

meet me on the rooftop: the sweet treats

When deciding what to make for a romantic rendezvous on the roof top, I thought cake truffles would be perfect since they're both decadent and delicate.

So far, this is my favorite red velvet cake recipe:

1 1/4 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 T cocoa powder
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 egg
1 T red food coloring
1/2 tsp white vinegar
1 tsp vanilla

Sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.  In a separate bowl, whisk together oil, buttermilk, egg, food coloring, vinegar, and vanilla.  While mixing at medium speed, gradually add dry mixture to wet mixture until just combined.  Fill cupcake liners.  Bake at 350 for 25 minutes, or until an insterted toothpick comes out clean.

We also made raspberry linzer cookies and mini chocolate cakes for which these links were helpful.

I hope everyone is having a beautiful Valentine's Day eve!

Meet Me On The Rooftop: Overhang

Welcome to the next in our rooftop series. In the photo below, taken by our talented friend and event photographer Joel Gutowsky, you'll see lanterns, lights, and hearts. We'd like to show you how we made this possible, in a really affordable way!

The Structure:

It's a simple structure made out of very available supplies: (2) 6' Ladders, (2) 2x4"-16' boards, and a few screw in hooks. While you may not have 2 ladders at your disposal, chances are you know where to borrow a couple for the night. The wood cost about $10 and a small package of screw in hooks (we used 12) for about $4. We spread the ladders apart about 14 feet and laid the boards side by side across the tops of the ladders with a little middle spacing (see the complex illustration for visual reference).

Stuff to hang:

While you may want to hang something else, we chose oblong box lanterns that we got from World Market (buy online here)

String lights, also from World Market (buy online here)

And these handmade cardboard tri-heart ornaments hung from the boards with simple sewing thread...colors optional :) To save time and to get a "fuzzy" look on the heart borders, I used a dremel, but a standard box cutter could also be used.

We hope you liked this little how-to portion. Check back tomorrow for the next step!
