popsicles!

It's awfully hot here in Texas, so one of our fave sweet treats in the summer is a popsicle!

[I can't seem to track down the original source of the first photo, so if you know it please let us know and we'll site it correctly! The champagne popsicles are found on Southern Living]

Isn't the popsicle + champagne combination one of the best ever? We're going to give it a go this weekend for sure.

cookies

How was your weekend? Ours was indeed celebrated with something fizzy. Also lots of chocolate chip cookies.

I saw this recipe for the best chocolate chip cookie on the planet by Jacques Torres on the Crepes of Wrath blog (which I adore and if you ever need a delish recipe with wonderful photos I highly recommend it) so I decided to give them a go this weekend.

I'm happy to report I have a new fave recipe and that it's absolutely worth the wild goose chase to find both cake and bread flour A N D the 24 hour chill time!

Do you have a go to recipe for classics like the chocolate chip cookie?

valentine's day cakes!

We had a few requests for Valentine's day sweet treats this year! We were pleased as punch to fill them.
Here's a quick glimpse at what we made:

Red velvet, chocolate ganache and cake truffles!

meet me on the rooftop: the sweet treats

When deciding what to make for a romantic rendezvous on the roof top, I thought cake truffles would be perfect since they're both decadent and delicate.

So far, this is my favorite red velvet cake recipe:

1 1/4 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 T cocoa powder
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 egg
1 T red food coloring
1/2 tsp white vinegar
1 tsp vanilla

Sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.  In a separate bowl, whisk together oil, buttermilk, egg, food coloring, vinegar, and vanilla.  While mixing at medium speed, gradually add dry mixture to wet mixture until just combined.  Fill cupcake liners.  Bake at 350 for 25 minutes, or until an insterted toothpick comes out clean.

We also made raspberry linzer cookies and mini chocolate cakes for which these links were helpful.

I hope everyone is having a beautiful Valentine's Day eve!
